Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, July 06, 2008.

A cold front will extend from a low pressure system centered over northeastern China up into southeastern Russia on Sunday. That region, plus the Koreas, can expect moderate to heavy rainfall along the front, which will move to the northeast as the day progresses. The rain over North and South Korea should taper off by the end of the day. Japan will also see a little light rain from this system, although most of it should clear out going into Monday. High pressure will begin to build in behind the front, which will keep most of southern Mongolia, as well as northern and central China mostly clear on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a dying low pressure system centered over central Russia will continue to produce scattered showers over northern Mongolia. Most of the rainfall should be light, but there could be some localized moderate to heavy rain. High pressure will keep the Middle East dry and very hot, while Southeast Asia can expect the seasonable monsoon storms on Sunday. Bangladesh and Myanmar will see most of the heaviest rainfall.

Temperature across the continent will range in the 20s and 30s, while areas in the north will only reach the teens.

A cold front moving across South Australia will trigger clouds and light rain across the region on Sunday. Eastern Australia can expect some showers along the coast, while high pressure will keep the rest of the continent dry.

The southern part of the continent will see mostly single digit and teens, while temperatures farther north will reach the high 20s.

Dr. Jeff Masters' WunderBlog:

Bertha may pose a long-range threat to the U.S.

Dr. Jeff Masters

Tropical Storm Bertha has maintained it's strength overnight, but is having trouble with Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) of 25°C--one degree below the threshold of 26°C considered beneficial for tropical storms. This morning's QuikSCAT pass missed Bertha, but last night's pass confirmed winds of at least 40mph. Satellite estimates of Bertha's strength have consistently put the storm's strength at 50 mph over the past day. The storm is under about 10-15 knots of win...

Weather History:

Did you know that...

It was sunny on this date in 1991 at St. Paul Island, Alaska. This is not exciting until you know that the next 60 days were cloudy, with the next sunny day occurring on September 5th. When the sun finally came out, the island reported a daily record high of 55 degrees.
