Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 22:47 EST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Sunday evening...

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for north and central Georgia.

* Through Sunday evening

* a strong upper level disturbance and abundant Gulf moisture will
combine to create widespread showers and thunderstorms overnight
and well into Sunday. Rainfall will be heavy at times and may
move repeatedly across the same areas. Two to four inches of
rain has already fallen today. Additional rainfall amounts of one
to three inches will be likely... with locally higher amounts
possible.

* Flooding in low lying and flood prone areas will be likely. In
addition... creeks... streams and rivers may overflow their banks.

* Overnight flooding is very dangerous. Do not drive onto water
covered roads.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

... Multiple damage areas across much of central Georgia...

Severe thunderstorms have impacted a good portion of central
Georgia, south of I-20. Numerous reports of damage have been
reported due to thunderstorm winds and tornadoes.

Due to the lack of daylight for the remainder of today, plus
additional severe weather expected late tonight into Sunday, NWS
Peachtree City will likely be unable to conduct official storm
surveys until Monday or Tuesday, next week.

At this time, we are working closely with our emergency response
partners to ascertain all the damage that has occurred throughout
the day, in addition to ensuring their safety and awareness for
additional severe weather, with more tornadoes, late tonight into
early Sunday.
